Cottage industy

I hear that John McAslan is moving back to Princes Place, Holland Park - to the former Richard Rogers office where he started 20 years ago. McAslan insists the move is not prompted by nostalgia, but by the need for more space and for a more creative atmosphere, to suit his practice's increasingly diverse activities. The studio needs to accommodate a model shop, conservation research unit and visualisation suites but it doesn't stop there. McAslan tells me he would like to take on a documentary-maker, and that one of his members of staff has a sideline in making and selling clothes. Could we see McAslan fashions hitting the catwalks soon?

The Princes Place premises are perfect: big spaces, lots of light and a 'nice cottage' rumoured to have been used for secret trysts by certain members of the Rogers team. McAslan, however, intends to turn it into a kitchen, lunch area and 'chill-out zone' complete with Big Brother-style giant bean-bags.

My, how times have changed.
