Corefast is a product specifically designed to improve the construction of structural building cores (including lift shafts and stairwells). It allows structural building cores to be erected up to six times faster than a reinforced concrete core. It uses Bi-Steel, a Corus patented technology, which comprises two steel plates separated by an array of transverse steel bars. These panels form the basis of a modular construction system that can be assembled rapidly and filled with concrete on site to provide a robust and strong structural spine to the building. Corefast provides more accuracy than a concrete core, requires no formwork, has a reduced footprint due to inherent strength, reduces work at height and can be more cost effective than traditional concrete core construction. It is intended for use on cores ranging from six storeys to more than 100 storeys.
Bi-Steel is also used in the construction of blast chambers, as a tunnel and trench lining and as an alternative to concrete retaining walls in specialist applications.
