AN ENERGY REVOLUTION, SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN COMMUNITIES Submissions are invited for a new open design competition based on a 2.2ha brownfield site on the edge of Manchester's city centre. The objective is to design a mixed-use scheme which is sustainable in its use of energy, urban in character and which promotes cooperative lifestyles. Deadline for designs is 16 January 2004.

CLEOPATRA'S KIOSK, LONDON Entries are invited for an open international competition for the design of a new structure for Cleopatra's Kiosk, located on the north bank of the River Thames in London. The objective is to seek an exciting and innovative design which will be worthy of this unique setting and which will be a tourist attraction in its own right. The deadline for designs is 4 November.

NEW DIGITAL MEDIA CENTRE, BARNSLEY Entries are invited for an open, two-stage competition for the design of a state-of-the-art Digital Media Centre in Barnsley.

Competitors will be asked to submit designs to incorporate office, cafe and conference spaces. Further details are available from the RIBA Competitions Office.


PLAISTOW, EAST LONDON Design submissions are invited for the refurbishment of low-rise housing on the Brooks Estate in Plaistow, east London, as well as the refurbishment of two highrise housing tower blocks on the estate.
