Clad tidings for Newcastle

Trent Concrete has negotiated a £1.32 million follow-on cladding contract for an extension to the Citygate development in Newcastle upon Tyne, designed by Ryder. The client was keen to involve the same team again following its successful work on the previous phase. The extension continues the six-storey office building and seven-storey residential development on St James Boulevard opposite the Newcastle United football stadium.

Trent's contract coprises 5,300m2 of acid-etched white reconstructed stone to match the first phase of the development, completed in 2001. The 470 panels form a spandrel and mullion combination to glazed areas, and incorporate large flat panels to flank and gable sections. Trent is also producing 650m2 of lowlevel plinths in a shallow-etched grey mix incorporating mica sand for extra sparkle, and additional feature panels in a black mix to match the glazing panels.

The office building will become the new headquarters for the Government Offices for the North East.
