Canned design

ASTRAGAL

America always does things on a bigger scale than the UK. So whereas we have rather feeble harvest festivals to distribute a few dry goods to the deserving, America has the national Canstruction awards. A total of 408,000kg of canned food were donated to Second Harvest food banks in 37 cities in this, the fifth year of the awards. The hook is that local teams then compete to build the most imaginative structures from these cans before they are redistributed. This year Nadaskay Kopelson Architects won the structural ingenuity prize for - wait for it - a Japanese temple. Page Sutherland Page was runner up with its 'Tin Towers', a replica of the Petronas Towers.
