The former Latimer Road School in South London was divided into a series of loft shells and the architect was commissioned to fit out part of the former gym and changing areas. Spare bedrooms and bathroom are on the outer first-floor area. The three main double-height spaces interact with each other while preserving the overall sense of light and space and allowing each area its own identity. The master bedroom and en-suite bathroom are included in these spaces and are part of the main living areas, with a playful relationship between the kitchen and bedroom. The bath is cantilevered over the dining room in a glass-block light box. The barrister client's leather-bound law books inspired the bookcase, which supports the internal walkway that links each of the spaces. The structural engineer was Howard Havanna Associates, Changes Interiors was the contractor and the contract sum was £95,000.
