Bridge work

astragal

Amid all the hoo-ha over the IOC visit, a small but relevant planning permission was granted: for a bridge across the River Lea, close to the Thames end. This will open up a walking route from Canning Town Tube Station to the river, and to Trinity Buoy Wharf, the arts enclave run by a trust and social entrepreneur Eric Reynolds.

Both were involved in the design competition for the footbridge, won by Whitbybird, and hope to see a start on site soon. John Prescott's department is funding the project, the first of nearly 100 bridges planned to run up the valley, increasing its east-west permeability immeasurably.
