It's nice to see the updated Westminster volume of Pevsner's Buildings of England, just published by Yale University Press (£29.95). I note that the Millbank Tower is described as 'one of the few London office towers to have won affection, designed evidently in rivalry with the Shell buildings on the South Bank but with none of their boxy dead weight'. This, of course, is one of the buildings that the sage of Bristol, RIBA president-elect George Ferguson, wants to see demolished. I wonder whose aesthetic judgement we should trust?
