Big names set to grapple with city masterplans at institute

Masterplanning is set to take centre stage at the RIBA with a series of lectures from leading exponents such as Lord Rogers and Terry Farrell.

The pair, who both penned heated letters to the AJon the subject before Christmas (AJ 21.12.00), take their place in a star-studded line-up commenting on 'City Constructs: the Contemporary Urban Masterplan' at the institute starting next month.

Lord Rogers will talk on 'The city and the architect's role', while Farrell's subject is 'Does masterplanning make a difference?' Author Mike Davis kicks off on 19 February with a talk on 'Magical Urbanism: Latinos reinvent the big city', while others include Kenneth Frampton, Adriaan Geuze, Demetri Porphyrios and Jon Rouse.

Tickets: RIBA Architecture Gallery, tel 020 7307 3699. See pages 40-44 for masterplanning feature.
