Belfast to get 'theatre for everyone'

Arts Team@RHWL has won an international competition to create a 'theatre for everyone' at Belfast's Grand Opera House.

The practice saw off competition from Allies and Morrison, Building Design Partnership, Burrell Foley Fischer and Glenn Howells Architects.

The scheme - which includes new art foyers, a studio theatre and spacious backstage accommodation - is considered a pivotal aspect of the regeneration of the area around the opera house.

Arts Team Partner Barry Pritchard said the project, designed for a site adjacent to the opera theatre, will develop a 'new theatre experience'.

'Our intent is to dissolve the boundaries between performance and foyers, ' he said.
