Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool by Wilkinson Eyre

Monarchs Quay, Liverpool L3

The new Arena and Convention Centre on Liverpool's Kings Waterfront provides a focal point for the city's Capital of Culture celebrations – and a home for the 2008 RIBA Stirling Prize. It comprises a 10,000 seat arena with a very flexible layout, a conference centre with a 1350 seat auditorium and a 7600 m2 exhibition facility.

Large areas of glazing have created a legible and welcoming building with clear views into the building, particularly at night, and views out over the river from within. The building achieved a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'. Five wind turbines on the site provide 15 per cent of the building's energy.

The Arena has provided Liverpool with another landmark on the Mersey and has been adopted by the Liverpool public with pride.
