I note the claim by Maurice McCarthy (AJ letters 08.02.07) that CABE panel members are harming the organisation's credibility by being oblivious to the fact that ARB is neither a qualification nor an honour and they are therefore wrong to use ARB as a professional affix. In truth, McCarthy is wrong and CABE members right.

There is no legislation which states that one may only use ARB as an affix if it is a qualification or an honour, and neither ARB (through its website) nor anyone else has the right to tell architects how to announce their registration, as long as they do not misrepresent their status.
