Alsop's in a spin at the speed of sound

Will Alsop's article 'The people that threaten the fabric of our society' (AJ 23.1.03) is a textbook example of spin.

He writes about those who threaten the recommendations of the Urban Task Force and points out that 'they add to pollution by driving excessive distances' and proposes the setting up of ' a Rural Task Force that begins to explore more sustainable and socially engaging models for the future'.

Will Alsop signs off with the words 'WA, from the Concorde lounge, JFK'. Clearly this particular socially engaged architect was not troubled by the fact he was about to sabotage the logic and sincerity of his arguments by travelling on Concorde - notorious for its phenomenally high fuel consumption and disproportionately high contribution to aircraft-generated air pollution.
