Alsop's army

A highly varied and cheery crowd attended the launch of Will Alsop's book at the Royal Academy, the occasion also marking the 10th anniversary of architectural publisher Calman King. I noticed Charles Samaurez Smith, Bruce McLean, Brendan Neiland and Jonathan Glancey among many others. Needless to say, the book (a visual treat) has a text by Kenneth Powell, the unchallenged king of the monograph. Coming up are tomes on Lord Rogers, Roger Stephenson, new London architecture, with another volume on Alsop now in production.

These days it is news if a monograph has been written by anyone else. . .
