Elger Esser's Vedutas and Landscapes, with its luminous, tranquil images of the skylines of various European towns, was one of the most distinctive - and distinguished - photography books to be published in recent years (AJ 21.2.02). In Cap d'Antifer - Étretat (Schirmer/Mosel, £29.95), Esser turns his attention to the Normandy coast, whose eroded cliffs seem to be crumbling before our eyes. Again Esser's meticulous images are slightly 'antique' in appearance, as if they were discovered in a precious old album.
