Stirling Prize: 72 RIBA Award-winning projects now available in the AJ Buildings Library
[AJ Buildings Library editor’s choice] Look in detail at drawings and images of the projects eligible for the Stirling Prize
Next week, six buildings from 97 RIBA Award winning projects will be announced as the Stirling Price stortlist. Images, drawings and data for the majority of these eligable projects are featured in the AJ Buildings Library - allowing you the opportunity to make a close inspection of these projects and decide on your own shortlist.
Many of the 72 RIBA Award winning projects from 2011 featured in the Library have not previously been seen in the AJ.
Nearly one in five RIBA Awards were given to the architects of one-off houses this year, including the White House by WTArchitecture, a family house on the Hebridean Isle of Coll partially occupying the ruins of an eighteenth century building.
Two projects for the RSPB at the Rainham Marshes featured in the Leisure section, Peter Beard LANDROOM’s Marshland Discovery Zone - a visitor centre constructed from recycled shipping containers and Haysom Ward Miller Architects’ Reception Hide Complex - a bird hide complex located on a new sea defence set between two lagoons. These projects are two of four buildings built for the RSPB that feature in the Library.
There are also eleven public projects that won RIBA Awards in the Library including my favourite, and tip for a Stirling Prize nomination, the restoration of Victor Pasmore’s Apollo Pavilion by Burns Architects.

The AJ Buildings Library is now included as part of the Architects’ Journal subscription.
