AHMM £50m twin towers for Capital of Culture win CABE backing

CABE has given the thumbs-up to this twin tower proposal by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris for Liverpool as the city prepares to be Capital of Culture in 2008.

The £50 million mixed-use development will sit within the famous view of the city's river frontage behind the Atlantic Thistle Hotel and close to the Liver Building. It consists of two towers connected by a lower block - a tall, thin 27-storey tower of residential space and a shorter one - 16 storeys - offering office space.

CABE's design review committee praised the 'texture and rhythm'of the design and the 'subtle'use of colour. But it called for careful consideration of the detailed design of the retail frontages at ground level and advised the local authority to insist on detailed drawings as a condition of planning permission. The developer is Rumford Investments.
