A VERY GOOD YEAR

Steel Focus

1997 has been a great year for steel buildings with Chris Wilkinson's Stratford Market depot not only winning the Financial Times Architecture Award, but also picking up the industrial building award at the Structural Steel Design Awards and being shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. Other high-profile steel buildings this year have been the Paul Hamlyn Learning Centre by Richard Rogers and the Indoor Cricket School for the mcc at Lord's Cricket Ground by David Morley Architects.
