Hanging Gardens of Clerkenwell
A hanging vegetable garden has been installed at the courtyard of Elips Design as part of Clerkenwell Design Week
The installation was created by Elips Design in collaboration with landscape architect Stefano Marinaz and Viabizzuno, and is designed to show how even the most built-up urban spaces can accommodate greenery.
Elisa Pardini of Elips Design, which was shortlisted for the AJ Small Projects Award in 2012, said: ‘I truly believe that the quality of our surroundings has a direct influence on the quality of our lives, whether in the workplace, at home or in the public realm. Allied to this is the acknowledgment that architecture is generated by the needs of people – both material and spiritual.’
She added: ‘Nature has always been considered a source of wellbeing [which] lifts the spirits. At the same time I felt it important to encourage [people] to grow their own vegetables, and to make the world greener is a must. Even the smallest space can be utilised.’
