Golf Starter's Hut: Rochmankowski Associates

This pavilion for a new golf course is set on a hill overlooking the south side of Edinburgh

The timber-clad and green oak structure evolved from agricultural design: it had to be durable and low maintenance, and look like part of the landscape. A monopitch roof follows the contours of the hill and its terne-coated steel finish fades into the typically grey sky. The predominantly glazed north facade is welcoming and secure, while the rear facade is double-sheeted in ply and lined with 25mm vertical oak battens for security and protection from wayward golf balls.
