Giant Olympic 'sofa' approved
Jones East 8 has won planning permission for this temporary hospitality building in the shape of a sofa overlooking the Olympic Park in east London
The 18,000m² temporary hospitality venue includes a 8,700 inch television screen, a four-storey sofa and will be able to accommodate up to 8,000 people a day.
The former industrial site is just 200m from the London 2012 Olympic Park in Stratford.
Site owner Lance Forman said: ‘The cabinet that the giant TV sits on could become a nightclub for 1,000 people.’ The venue is to be open from 8am to 2am between April to September 2012.
Phil Hudson of Jones East 8 added: ‘We wanted to try something cheeky, different and memorable and in so doing put the venue, Fish Island and Tower Hamlets on the corporate map.’
The scheme was submitted for planning permission in June this year
