Gender inequality

There were no long faces on the Assael table at the AJ100 night on 23 May, despite losing out to Jestico + Whiles for the title of AJ100 employer of the year. John Assael’s practice had been a hot favourite to land the accolade following its success in The Times’ similar – but obviously less important – league table. However Mr A looked like the happiest man in the world all evening. Perhaps it was because of his much-noticed ‘bevy of beauties’ (phrase used with kind permission of the Daily Star). The Assael table resembled a high-class harem of almost a dozen architectural honeys. Astragal is not one for gender stereotypes, but presumably the male members of the practice were off watching the European Cup final, which was on the same night.
