  • Comment on: Patricia Cain and Alan Dunlop on architectural draughtsmanship, painting and the city

Patricia's work is stunning; I'm a pastel artist too and as someone who produces very architecturally inspired work, and had a similar art school experience to her, I find I want to know much more about her. Her work is beyond impressive; I almost get a headache thinking about the number of layers she's incorporated into the composition. I'm also amazed at how freehand - yet accurate & coherent - they are. I work freehand but I can't imagine being able to follow the sort of natural, unconscious thought process she talks about. And I couldn't agree more with her thoughts on the lack of emphasis on drawing skills in art tuition. It should be the very core of what many artists are doing; your ability to articulately represent what you have in mind. Bypassing that implies a sort of arrogance that I'm very uncomfortable with.
