Fretton, Hadid and FOA on stellar Norway shortlist
The architect is named alongside fellow London-based practices Foreign Office Architects (FOA) and Zaha Hadid Architects, as well as Heneghan Peng and global leading lights Tadao Ando and Sauerbruch Hutton.
The 27,000m2 project will see the merger of the Munch Museum, dedicated to The Scream artist Edvard Munch, with the new Stenersen Art Gallery in the Bjørvika area on the city’s waterfront.
Meanwhile, David Chipperfield has been invited to join the shortlist for the new Deichmanske Library on the neighbouring plot. He faces competition from the likes of Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Japan’s Toyo Ito and homegrown practice Snohetta.
Both schemes are part of wider proposals to create a new cultural hub close to Snohetta’s new Opera House, which opened in April this year
