Ecophon - Sound solution for students
Refectories are often the hub of a building and should be pleasant and comfortable places where people can go to catch up over a cup of coffee.
However, high levels of background noise can create problems if the room acoustics are not properly considered.
At City College Brighton and Hove the refectory is a large open space with lots of hard surfaces which reflect noise, making it difficult for conversations to be heard, even at a close distance.
This meant that it was far from a pleasant environment, so the College approached Ecophon to provide an acoustic solution. Working in conjunction with ceiling installer ReSpace, acoustic calculations were carried out and Ecophon’s Master Solo ceiling rafts were installed.
Minimal disruption was key so the rafts were installed over two days during half term. ‘The rafts went up really quickly and the results were fantastic. The space is now an enjoyable place to be and you can hear conversations clearly,’ said head of estates, Gideon Meade.
