Ecobuild Day 1
Surface design with elastic bands from the University of Huddersfield
Super busy day today bookended with presentations on my Olympics book: one on the RIBA/NBS’ generous and well-positioned stand at Ecobuild and the other an ODA/LOCOG event at Forman’s on Fish Island.

London 2012 - Sustainable Design: Delivering an Olympic Legacy
Bumped into Simon Sturgis upon arrival and then in rapid succession Lynne Sullivan who had just launched the RIBA’s new Sustainability in Practice Handbook, Bill Gething, and Robin Nicholson. AHMM’s Nic Crawley was also cruising the aisles. Sorry to miss the lineup of Rab Bennetts, Peter Clegg and Bill Dunster reflecting on their careers in sustainable design.

Winning entry for TRADA’s Oxford Brooks School of Architecture Design Competition
Happened upon a surprising stand from the Univerisity of Huddersfield sandwiched amidst all the product suppliers. Some lovely work by students in the Surface Design course - in concrete and with salvaged elastic bands!

Concrete and elastic bands
Discovery of the day was the quayside cafe best spot in Excel on such a sunny day + just down the steps from the Emap stand where free copies of the AJ’s current green issue and the AR (even has a green cover, too!) are on offer.

Quayside Cafe
Tomorrow the better part of the day will be buried inside the judging of the Isover Passivhaus student competition - this year a riverfront regeneration site in Nottingham. More tomorrow.
