Five things to do today: 12 December

Maltese democracy - Modernist interiors - Cadge Mahal - Icelandic infrastructure - Christmas Cow Boy

Maltese democracy
Learn where democracy is ranked in the value system of the Maltese thanks to The Malta Independent. 'It is not disgraceful that the site has been earmarked for a parliament building designed by one of the leading architects of our time. It is disgraceful that Malta has never had a parliament building.'

Modernist interiors
Mix yourself a cocktail and curl up with The Modern Interior,
a richly illustrated book of Modernist interiors by Penny Sparke (Reaktion Books, £16.95)

Cadge Mahal
India’s embassy in Bangladesh has voiced its displeasure over a life-size copy of the Taj Mahal that is being built, saying it will investigate to see if any copyright laws had been breached. 'You can’t just go and copy historical monuments,' fumed a spokesman at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Read on at the Gulf Times.

Icelandic infrastructure
See haunting photos of Icelandic infrastructure by Peter Alexander. Industrial Iceland is on until 14 December, James Taylor Gallery, Collent Street, London E9.

Christmas Cow Boy
Check out this Alessi Christmas Cow Boy statuette of Santa riding his reindeer made of painted porcelain: 'an exercise in traditional figurines using modern technologies'.
