Women in Sustainable Architecture: Fionn Stevenson

  • Comment

Professor at Sheffield School of Architecture

Fionn Stevenson is director of technology at Sheffield School of Architecture and is due to take over as head of school in September. She champions sustainable design in architectural education and was a founding member of Educators for Sustainable Architecture. After studying architecture at the Universities of Cambridge and Sheffield she started work as a community architect. This formed her interest in the relationships people have with buildings. Stevenson has championed use of design-through-occupancy feedback and uses this to inform design.

She said: ‘My interest lies in the deep tacit knowledge that people have in relation to buildings and the means of accessing and utilising this in design through occupancy feedback in order to make buildings work better. A key aspect of this is reducing unnecessary resource consumption in buildings at every level.’
