English Heritage on the hunt for Stonehenge architect – again
The move comes eight months after Denton Corker Marshall’s £67 million scheme was ditched, following the abandonment of proposals for a bypass underneath the site.
This project will become the fourth design in 15 years.
It was thought that Ted Cullinan would return to the scheme 15 years after his original design for the centre was dropped. But this now seems unlikely, as EH has issued an OJEU notice for a scheme with a budget of between £15 and 20 million.
It is understood that EH is eager to get the project underway as quickly as possible, to take advantage of increased visitor numbers in the UK during 2012.
A shortlist of five architects will be drawn up following the initial expressions of interest.
