  • Comment on: Oxford professors slam student residences scheme

    Ed Arthur's comment 3-Apr-2013 3:26 pm

As a past student (architecture) of Oxford Brookes University, I fully concur with Ian Davis. The housing issue in Oxford is a problem worsening every year, but a group of ugly and intrusive blocks are a dumb and poorly thought through way of alleviating this issue. If this scheme and others like it go ahead, Oxford will be hidden in the midst of yet more generic residential and mixed use buildings, and will become no different from many other UK towns and cities. Oxford has grown organically for many hundreds of years. Let's not fill it with buildings that will come down in 20-30 years. Let's give it something worthy of adding to the tapestry.
