Five things to do today: 9 March
Corb on holiday - Russian dolls - Frank Lloyd Wright - bird watching - Kelly Thompson
Corb on holiday
Have a snoop around Le Corbusier’s holiday home, a faithful reconstruction of which is on show at the RIBA until March 28. Icon magazine describes his tiny little bolthole in Cap-Martin on the Cote D’Azure as ‘part log cabin and part hotel room, with the feel of a particularly well-designed monk’s cell. In other words, it’s quite an achievement’.
See Irina Troitskaya’s wonderful Russian dolls. Hand-painted and themed by criteria such as ‘the most popular animals from Russian fairy tales’ and ‘naturally white animals’.
Frank Lloyd Wright
From Blade Runner and Gattaca to new release The International, when film-makers want to portray a sterile, authoritarian future they turn to the works of the eccentric, but brilliant, Frank Lloyd Wright.
