Five things to do today: 19 March

My Life With Cables - school’s out - school safety - Frank conversation - 100 minutes of Havana

My Life With Cables
Check out the wonderful My Life With Cables, a series of illustrations by Christoph Niemann.

School’s out
See Vice’s startling images of abandoned schools in Detroit, a city that has lost half of its population in the last 50 years.

School safety
Can architects save lives? ‘Responding to tragic school shootings and other acts of violence in schools, architects are seeking ways to make school buildings safer.’

Frank conversation
Read a candid interview with Frank Gehry in the Los Angeles Times. The great man admits: ‘I don’t even know how to turn a damn computer on’.

100 minutes of Havana
‘Last week, Shoreditch saw a unique street art collaboration, a live art battle that lasted for 100 minutes featuring a mixture of creative egos, a 16ft by 70ft white wall, lots of paint and plenty of rum’

  • Architects making schools safer, you've got to be joking? Life's hard enough fending off the blame for little Tarquin scraping his knees while doing something stupid, why invite the problem of fending off psychopaths? I thought the police were meant to do that, not to mention the deeper social question of the schools moulding these idiots during their formative years in the first place.
