Martin Sexton: Blow-up – sex with Karl Marx

Shock tactics and techtonics at the Economist Plaza

The Economist Plaza’s art program continues apace with Martin Sexton’s alarmingly titled installation. Playing on tensions between radical socialism and its appropriation by capitalism’s ever-hungry culture industry, an oversized red camera sits between Alison and Peter Smithson’s towers, dwarfing its object of scrutiny – a bust of Karl Marx. And what’s down the lens? Clips from Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 classic film Blow-Up.
