Catherine Yass High Wire

Architects Stephen Chance and John Yeudall of Pollard Thomas Edwards architects - no strangers to climbing adventures - review Catherine Yaas' installation

In this year’s Architecture Biennale the head of the festival, Peter Murray, climbed and abseiled off Pollard Thomas Edwards architects’ office.

I visited with architect-climber John Yeudall. Catherine Yass’ Artangel installation High Wire brings together themes of daredevilry and architecture beneath the sublime structural gymnastics of the German Gymnasium in Kings Cross.

On four large screens a tightrope walker crosses between 30-storey tower blocks. John tells me that stepping off – not the forward foot but the second step that leaves the building – is the hardest part. With that in mind we launch straight into the installation.
