What with all the hoo-ha surrounding the BBC’s lack of cash, the future of their proposed part-relocation to the Salford Quays looks increasingly uncertain. But it’s not only the likes of Wilkinson Eyre and Benoy – just two of the growing gaggle of architects involved in the £400 million project – that are hoping for some resolution on the matter. Spare a thought for those practices waiting to hear if their schemes will have to be either dropped or altered to make way for Auntie Beeb’s new behemoth. According to the rumour mongers the latest project to be facing a potential redesign is 3XN’s Arts and Media Centre for Salford University. Astragal hears that the university is keen to move to the new media hub, and that could mean taking a version of the 3XN competition scheme with it.
