Inspired by the theme of city mobilisation, drdarchitects have made a miniature clay city
This work by drdharchitects is inspired by the theme of ‘city mobilisation’, commissioned for the Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennial exhibition in 2009.
Its piece evokes this idea by producing a miniature city made from clay. To make the piece, they collaborated with five hundred volunteers from local primary schools of Shenzen, all aged seven to eleven.
The piece comprises fifteen hundred buildings, and each and every building has a unique but contemporary design. All of them are coated in a white glaze so that they share an ivory pallor and in turn, a collective identity.
drdharchitects describe this project as one which ‘sought to critique and explore the delicate, but necessary balance between the universal and the particular.’
The exhibition was accompanied by a selection of models and photographs of the practice’s work.
The exhibition was held at the drdharchitects office
