Socrates Sculpture Park folly contest, New York

[Requests to participate must be received by 16 January 2012] Socrates Sculpture Park in New York has launched a design competition looking for ‘contemporary interpretations’ of the architectural folly

Proposals are sought for structures and installations which could be built as part of a two month residency programme within the park.

During the residency the park’s workshops and fabrication facilities will be used to construct the winning project.

Entrants must submit a 1,000-word proposal outlining the project and its relationship to the theme of a folly. Proposals should pay attention to how the materials used to complete the project will be reused, recycled or dispersed in the future.

The winner will receive $5,000 to fund the realisation of their project. The completed folly is planned to open to the public in July 2012.
