Seattle floating bridge contest opens
[Registration closes 10 August] Washington State University has opened an ideas contest to design a cost effective bridge replacement in Seattle
The competition focuses on the 520 bridge which is due to be decommissioned in 2014 due to high maintenance costs, damage, and the need for additional lanes.
Schemes may reuse or recycling the structure’s thirty-three floating concrete pontoons to restore the current bridge or dismantle the structure.
A £3,800 prize fund will be split between the top three entrants with an exhibition of entries planned for September.
Registration closes 10 August
Submissions should be returned by 15 August
Works will be exhibited 18 September
