Navy Pier revamp, Chicago

[Intent to participate must be received by 20 September] An international design competition has been launched seeking proposals to revamp the Navy Pier tourist attraction in Chicago, United States

The $85 million project seeks a new ‘pierscape’ for the area’s five individual parks which together attract 8.6 million visitors a year.

Entries should propose new open and public spaces for the Gateway Park (which links the pier to the shore), the South Dock and the three further parks on the pier itself.

responses should be specific to each site but also provide room for temporary pavilions and art installations.

The competition features a ‘multiple phase’ selection process with the shortlisted teams announced in October and then asked to submit development plans. Finalists will receive $50,000 each.
