International arena contest, Copenhagen

  • Comment

[Requests to participate must be received by 15 November 2011] The city of Copenhagen has launched a design competition for a 35,000m2 multi-purpose indoor arena

The 15,000-seat sports and music venue (site pictured) will feature restaurants and bars as well as space for athletes and performers. The organisers hope the winning design will ‘enhance the international profile of Copenhagen’.

The preferred layout is for the audience to be seated on three sides of the arena with the option of fully surrounding the space for special events.

Located in the Ørestad Syd district of the city, the arena design is expected to enhance urban development at a local level as well as promoting sports internationally.
