Ideas contest for self-sufficient architecture opens in Spain

The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia has joined with Hewlett Packard to launch a contest focussing on self-sufficient habitats

Open to both students and professionals, the competition seeks proposals for self-sufficient buildings or cities with entrants free to chose any site and budget.

Submissions should detail their scheme’s development over 10, 50 or 100 years time frames.

A £5,200 prize fund will be split between the top three winners with an equivalent of £38,100 in grant funding to be offered to further develop the winners’ ideas.

Results of the competition are due to be announced on 2 December with a travelling exhibition planned to run from May to January 2015.

Submissions must be completed in English with any queries welcomed up until 5 August. Registration for the contest is free of charge but must be completed by 30 September.
