Ideas competition seeks tsunami resistant architecture

[Registration should be completed by 30 November 2011] The Architecture Workshop in Rome group has launched an ideas competition looking for tsunami proof structures.

Open to professionals and students, proposals are sought for designs aimed at lessening the destructive impact of tsunami waves on structures in vulnerable regions.

Plans for individual structures and general strategies are sought, with an emphasis on developing solutions similar to existing methods; such as earthquake proofing structures.

A £3,600 prize fund has been announced with categories for special awards including best use of sustainable materials, technological innovation and visionary concept.
