Gold Coast City design competition opens

[Contest launches March 2013] Gold Coast City Council in Australia has opened a two-stage international contest to design a new 110,000m² cultural precinct

The competition seeks ‘compelling design concepts’ with architects free to form multi-disciplinary teams.

Three shortlisted teams will receive a stage two stipend of £165,500 and the winner is expected to take home a contract for design services.

Setting out the city’s expectations of contest proposals, the mayor said: ‘Firstly, they must have a centre for performing arts. Secondly, they must include a new arts museum. And finally, they should embrace our city’s coastal lifestyle by including an outdoor artscape and easy access by boat, bike or foot.’
