A competition for new models of family housing in Salford, a new public space and landscape redesign in Omagh, and a design competition for Hastings Pier; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Salford House 4 Life Competition

Submissions are invited for a two-stage competition to design a family housing scheme on a 1.45ha brown-field site in Salford.  The House 4 Life project seeks to develop a new model for family housing which combines innovation and sustainability to develop new models of family housing close to the city centre.  The competition is to select a preferred consortium to deliver the House 4 Life project, the consortia being made up of design team, private sector developer, RSL, construction industry and representation from the environmental technologies sector.  The deadline for submissions is 10 November 2010.

Omagh Accessible Shared Inclusive Space (OASIS) Project.

Omagh District Council seeks an architect-led design team for the Omagh Accessible Shared Inclusive Space (OASIS) Project.  The OASIS project will provide a public pathway to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists and create a pedestrian bridge across the river.  It will also create a new public space on the site of an existing car park.   The deadline for submissions is 19 October.

Hastings Pier Regeneration Scheme

An open design competition has been launched for the redevelopment of Hastings Pier on the east Sussex coast.  The Trust needs an architect to develop the project’s funding and design strategy. Selection of a design team will be by competitive interview.  Designers with ‘exceptional design skills and experience in engaging the local community’ are sought. Experience of work in historical contexts is inessential. The deadline for expressions of interest is 14 October.
