Balham public realm, Chicago’s Prentice Hospital and a monument to the Russian avante-garde. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Chicago Architectural Club with the AIA has launched a contest focusing on the city’s Bertrand Goldberg-designed Prentice Women’s Hospital. Open to students and professionals, the competition seeks uses for the 1975 concrete structure. A £3,300 prize will be shared between the top three entries, with an exhibition to follow. [Submissions are due by 15 October]

The Siberian Centre for Contemporary Art has launched a contest to design a monument to the Russian avant-garde movement in Novosibirsk. The winner will receive £1,200 and an invitation to enter an agreement for the realisation of the project. [Registration to be completed before 1 October]

WandsworthBorough Council is receiving expressions of interest for its Balham Outer London Fund Round 2 programme. As part of the £1.95 million project, multidisciplinary teams will help ‘unlock an ambitious programme of improvement’. RIBA stages A to L services are called for with a range of works due to complete by March 2014. [PQQs to be returned by 14 September]
