Competitions: Editor's pick, 30.06.11

Restoration of Pontypool market in Wales, a port building for the London Gateway and an RIBA design contest for Windermere Steamboat Museum; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

Torfaen County Borough Council in Wales is on the hunt for an architect to take on the ‘sympathetic’ restoration of Pontypool’s 1893 indoor market. The contract is worth £150,000 and requests to participate must be submitted by 2 August.

London Gateway – the new deep-sea container port currently under construction in Essex, 25 miles from the capital – is procuring services for the design and construction of a new port building. The quayside project includes a workshop, operations facility, a canteen and staff amenities. Requests to participate must be made by 25 July.

The RIBA has launched a design competition for the redevelopment of the Windermere Steamboat Museum in the Lake District National Park. Expressions of interest are sought from architect-led design teams. The deadline is noon on 4 August.
