Competitions: Editor's pick, 28.07.11

Three London 2012 Olympic Legacy design competitions, a Bauhaus museum in Weimar and a Brothers Grimm museum in Kassel; the editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The Olympic Park Legacy Company has launched two design competitions. The first is for a £12 million ‘major public space’ between Zaha Hadid’s Aquatics Centre, the Olympic Stadium and the ArcelorMittal Orbit (pictured), and the second for a £5 million ‘hub’ playground and a visitor centre close to the Velodrome. The deadline for requests to participate is 31 August. The Architecture Foundation has launched a further Olympic Legacy design competition seeking proposals for a play space for Three Mills Green in the east London borough of Newham. The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest is 5pm on 15 August.

A competition has been launched to design a new Bauhaus museum in Weimar, Germany. Founded in the city in 1919, the modernist architecture and design movement is celebrated in a temporary museum in Weimar which is now set to be replaced thanks to new funding. The deadline for requests to participate is 6 October.

The city of Kassel in Germany has invited architects to propose a Brothers Grimm museum. The acclaimed writers lived in Kassel for 30 years and the 3,100m2 brief is to design an inner-city museum where manuscripts can be displayed close to the site of their original authorship. Requests to participate must be made by 18 August.
