The next generation of UK pylons, a brewery for Carlsberg in Denmark and upgrades to Hampden Stadium for the Commonwealth Games. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

A competition calling for designs for a new generation of electricity pylon has been launched. With up to 20 power stations needed to be built this decade, the competition is part of a bid to connect new infrastructure in the UK without ruining natural landscapes and countryside. The deadline for entries is 12 July and National Grid said it would give ‘serious consideration’ to developing the winning designs. A prize fund of £10,000 will also be shared amongst the winning candidates.

Drinks maker Carlsberg has announced an international design competition to transform the New Carlsberg Brewhouse in Copehagen, Denmark into a ‘Brand and Experience Centre’. Designs should have a ‘future-oriented’ approach which compliments the brewery’s functions and spatial experiences. the deadline for prequalification entries is 7 June.

Full design services are being sought for the installation of an athletics track at Scotland’s national stadium in Hampden near Glasgow. The contract which is for the 2014 Commonwealth Games also covers the installation of a warm-up track in Lesser Hampden and the removal of both tracks after the event. Requests to participate must be made by 17 June.
