An innovation centre for the University of Liverpool, a Welsh primary school and inner city play areas. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The University of Liverpool is looking for an architect for an £18 million Materials Innovation Factory. The BREEAM Excellent-rated building will house 140 research staff and 100 industry workers in refurbished areas and a new block with flexible workspaces. RIBA Stages D to L are required [PQQs are due by 13 May]

Conwy County Borough Council is looking for a multi-disciplinary design team for a £2.56 million primary school. Arising from the merger of Ysgol Maelgwn and Ysgol Nant y Coed schools, the project will be in two stages. Services are required up to planning and RIBA stage D, but may progress in 2014 depending on land acquisition. [Requests to participate due 12 June]

Building Trust International has launched a competition to design inner city play areas for adults and children. Open to professionals and students, entrants are asked to propose contextual interactive solutions. Entries must include perspectives, plans, sections and elevations. Funding and planning will be sought on behalf of the winner. [Register by 29 July]
