Housing for the isolated island of St Helena, ideas contest for a Lincoln arch and design team for Coventry primary school extensions. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

The remote South Atlantic island of St Helena (pictured) has opened a housing design contest open to newly qualified architects. Architects with less than five years in practice may compete to design the £400,000 housing scheme. A £9,000 prize fund has been announced. Entries will be exhibited in April and a winner announced in May [Entries to be submitted by 15 March]

Lincoln’s Business Improvement Group has launched an ideas contest for a new archway in historic Strait Street. Open to the public, the contest seeks a ‘designed feature’ that will ‘blend into the historical streetscape’. A £500 prize has been announced. Construction depends on planning and local landowners [Submissions are due 15 March]

Coventry City Council is seeking an architect-led team to design and contract manage extensions to five primary schools. Teams are to include engineering, CDM and quantity surveying services. All works under the £900,000 contract are to complete by December 2014 [Requests to participate due 8 March]
